Waste of $9.99. Don't buy.

Poorly written. Spelling mistakes, absurdly long sentences and poor grammar make this 'book' difficult to read. For an author who claims to have developed the "Ultimate Study Method", I assumed his command of writing was at an adult level before I bought this book.

The multitude of 'reviewers' for this book who have also reviewed "The Art of Martial Arts Kicks" leads me to suspect that most the reviews for this book are fake, probably paid for by the author. The big giveaway was 'Monique', who has a tendency to write reviews for the books that she buys her grandson.

The actual methods in this book appear to be a cheap copy of a number of other systems. The only good thing about this book was the bibliography, which contains a number of useful books, which I've already read.

I suggest you spend your money elsewhere.

Interesting book that had quite a bit of information

As you can tell from the Table of Contents, this book is FULL of study tricks, such as speed reading, techniques for quick mental math, easy memorization, enhancing concentration and focus, and more.

I was familiar with a lot of the methods taught in this book, but I learned a few new tricks, so that was cool. There were some grammar mistakes and spots where the writing seemed a bit rushed, but it wasn't a big deal.

All in all, I'm happy with my purchase.

I also just finished The Power of Words: Unlock Your Ability to Learn and Do Anything and found it fascinating and incredibly practical as a student. I wish I would've read this book years ago... I would've gotten way better grades.

This is actually excellent

I was a little iffy about buying this book, but I'm glad I did. All of the information could be gleaned from other sources I suppose, but the author brings it all together nicely. I'm using the speed reading and mind mapping techniques together in the system the author calls "The Ultimate Study Method", and I'm seeing fantastic results (virtually instantly). I'm a noob with all this stuff, but I have to be honest, this is one of the best books I've purchased in a while. There may be equal or better books on the topic, but this one is actually a life changer for me. Great for students and people who want to learn quickly and with great comprehension.

Star Wars Coloring Fun – many designs in both portrait and mandala style – printed two-sided on non-perforated paper

Rather than discuss how this is like or different from the various movies other than to note that images have been used from all six episodes thus far, I will discuss only how I feel about it as an adult coloring book.

The book is filled with portrait studies of various character and a lot of kaleidoscope style mandalas. The mandalas generally have a single repeating element from movies (robots, ships, weapons, etc.) What I found missing and would have liked would have been some stand-alone studies of the Death Star and the Millennium Falcon and other ships and vehicles. While I missed those, it doesn't detract from the overall large selection of Star Wars designs to choose from. My favorite characters were all well represented and as I enjoy coloring mandalas, I will have a lot of fun with those, too. The designs range from simple and open (especially many of the mandalas) to complex with intricate design elements (character portraits, especially.) This presents a nice range for me to color depending on the mood I am in that day.

The book has a nice heavyweight cardboard cover (front and back) which makes for a great solid surface to color on. The designs are printed on both sides of the page and the paper is not perforated. The binding is sewn rather than glued, so removing it takes only a few snips with a small scissor on a few pages.

There are only four designs which span across two pages. The rest of the designs are all single page with lots of room around the edges so that nothing is lost in the binding. The four two page designs are wallpaper style of repeating patterns and each is dedicated to a single subject: Yoda, R2-D2, C-3PO, Boba Fett, and finally, various ships in the midst of a battle. I think these are really cool designs though they don't line up very well in my particular book. When there are too many of these two-page designs with too much loss of image, I detract a point from my rating. That is not the case with this book – there are so few that it is really insignificant.

All of my markers bleed-through on this paper thought my Staedler triplus fineliners fared the best with more of a shadow image on the back of the page. I could still identify the color, so it merely bled less than the others. My gel pens worked fine and my coloring pencils worked fantastic – very smooth and creamy on this paper.

Beautiful Images to Color

I love the variety of beautiful images in this book. The book is very large in comparison to similar books. It has a very thick cardboard-like cover. There seems to be an equal balance of male to female characters to color. All of the characters are from Episode 1 through 6. Overall, the paper seems to be of good quality, but the images are doublesided. I use my water based markers without the color bleeding through. Since images are doublesided, some types of markers cannot be used to color without bleeding through. I have yet to use colored pencils because I have been enjoying using my gel pens and markers to color.

Confusing style choices

First of all the quality of the materials used to make this book are unquestionably great, with a nice hard cover and very thick pages. The actual images on those pages are a mix of decent Star Wars themed mandalas and abstracts mixed with a lot of characters surrounded by flowers... yes flowers. Pretty much every picture is.... Darth Vader, adorned with tropical flowers.... Yoda springing into action, with a background of garden flowers... Han Solo, behind intricate lattice with flowers. I guess that's what makes this an "adult" coloring book? I'd have preferred fewer flowers myself, but I'll still enjoy this book.

This is like a Wikipedia article in book form. It doesn't have as much discussion as I would like, but it does have a lot of tables summarizing & comparing the forms that exist in several Romance languages. As such, it is a good reference.

Excellent book. I am trying to learn Italian and this book has made the task easier and much more enjoyable. The author's (Joshua Rudder) YouTube videos on the same topic are also great. He is so easy to follow I have just ordered another of his books "Native Grammar: How Languages Work", again after watching his videos on this broader topic.

Immensely practical and enjoyable to read

This superb book reinforces a long-held belief of mine - if you don't have the time, don't have a dog. Establishing a respectful and healthy relationship with your dog (whether as a pet or for working) is the essence of this book. It is comprehensive, immensely practical and easy to follow. I learned things I had hardly thought about before, and it often made me smile, too.

With so much conflicting information about dog training these days in magazines, on the internet and on TV, it is so refreshing to be able to have a huge amount of sensible and carefully thought out advice in one volume. This book should become the standard to which all other such books will be compared.

I love my dog to bits, and he is fairly well balanced, but Total Recall has already proved useful. All I need to do now is teach him to read...

This book works

This book is clear, concise and fun to read. I'm using Mattinson's methods with my 15-month-old labrador, who is VERY boisterous, and she is responding fantastically. It's full of useful tips and well-set-out exercises. There is a lot to take on board, but if you follow this method consistently, it really does work. I've found myself saying "of course, that's common sense really", in response to many of the tips, but nevertheless they're still things I would not have thought of had I not read this book (just the concept of making yourself more interesting to your dog, as a way of getting him to respond to you, for example). Early this morning I called my dog back from chasing a fox which had wandered into our property with its cub. And she came! I highly recommend this book. With work and consistency, it will improve your life, and that of your dog.

Whistle While You Train

If you like using a hand-held dog whistle, then this is the book for you. The author relies heavily on the use of a dog whistle in her training method - both indoors and outdoors. She also has a number of exercises where you need either another person, another dog or both. Of the training books I've purchased, this is my least liked dog training book.

I liked all of the pictures I saw from this book

My work bought this book for a de-stressing coloring contest at work. I used the pencils they bought until I got home and could use my prismacolors. I liked all of the pictures I saw from this book, so I would recommend it. Nice variation in designs and not too small or too big areas to color in, which can cramp up your hand.

I love this book. Wish I knew how to put pics on the reviews like some people do.. this and the spectacular design one from this company are two of my favorites in my stash of coloring books. I use colored pencils.

Beautiful and disorderly

What could be more interesting than a portrait of Ming culture, perhaps the height of Chinese civilisation in pre-modern times? But Craig Clunas, though his book uses superb illustrations, makes a hash of it. Clunas just has to kowtow to postmodernist canons, such as by which boundaries are always burred, meanings relative, narratives are banned, and there is a lot of hybridity everywhere. Predictably, the result is messy.

Empire of Great Brightness makes the argument that Ming China (Ming meaning something like brightness in Chinese) was held together by a prolific visual and material culture. Its chapters are organised around concepts (time and space, movement, violence, etc.), which might be fine except that the concepts are lofty and vague, making the argument hard to track. First, the text jumps from one anecdote to another often without logic, with the result that these fail to register as a group. Second, Clunas's cultural observations are severed from their political, social, and everyday moorings, and are hard to follow for the non-specialist. Much of his comments will be lost on anyone who does not already knows a good deal about, say, Chinese imperial administration, religious practices, or literary canons. Third, as a result, he fails to make his point. For example, the chapter on Movement suggests Ming cultural artifacts show movement as central to Chinese self-representation. But because this is given no or little context, the reader is left with a collection of objects, each wrapped in its highfalutin gloss, without an explanation as to why the concept was unique to China. Movement is key to a great variety of art, from sixth-century Sassanid Persia to twentieth-century Italian modernist painting. Why Ming China? And Clunas concludes the chapter with the statement that immobility was just as important to Ming culture.

Some chapters have a little more structure, such as that on texts. But even then, Clunas's pompous and convoluted writing gets in the way. As a sample, he writes (page 60): 'As Francesca Bray has pointed out in a subtle study of the house as a technology for producing gender power through spatial disposition in late imperial China, the Chinese categories of "inner" and "outer" are not so much distinct, exclusive domains as boundaries shifting along a continuum. That is to say they are again relative, not absolute.' In other words, in plain English: Chinese ladies sometimes went out of their house.

Nor, finally, does Empire of Great Brightness give any sense of chronological change, of the rise and fall of Ming splendour and industry. Of course, the appropriate caveat is made in the introduction that things change and culture is never stable, but that is all. Clunas's book might appeal to the Ming China specialist, and it might work as a coffee table book thanks to its illustrations, but this is not for the general reader, and I suspect even the student will struggle to take away very much from it.
