A must for those who eat seaweed

Ole G. Mouritsen is a scientist and Professor of Biophysics at the University of Southern Denmark. Be impressed but rest assured this book is not one that will be pushed to the back of a highbrow academic library shelf; it is a delightfully easy read and is beautifully illustrated with superb photographs. Mouritsen charts the history of seaweed and Brits will enjoy mention of the fact that Dr Kathleen Mary Drew Baker (1901-57) discovered a property of porphyra (more familiar to us as laver or nori), which enabled it to be cultivated. Indeed the Japanese hold Kathleen Drew Baker in high regard referring to her as the `Mother of the Sea.'
Understandably there is a heavy focus on the cultivation of seaweed in Japan but as lovers of nori and sushi this is to be expected. They might not however, have known without reading this book that harvesting carrageen (a red seaweed) in Zanzibar enables mothers there to support their families.
"Seaweeds are marine algae" heads many a page as Mouritsen seeks to direct the reader's understanding of the colloquial term `seaweed'.

There are chapters on Seaweed folklore, its technical uses (from gunpowder, soda and early glass making to biofuels) and its use in medicine, health care and cosmetics.

My favourite chapter was obviously going to be `Seaweeds in the kitchen' and the cooks amongst you will be pleased to learn that it is a long and comprehensive one:
* Seaweeds in the Home Kitchen
* Seaweeds As Seasonings
* Seaweeds In Soups
* Seaweeds In Salads And Sauces
Seaweeds in Omelettes and in Fish and Vegetable dishes
* Seaweeds and Sushi
* Seaweeds in Bread, Pasta and Savoury Tarts
* Seaweeds in Desserts and Cakes
* Seaweeds in Drinks
* Seaweeds in Snacks
* Seaweed in Gastronomy

There has to be something for everyone in this amazing collection. The recipes are clearly written and the ingredient lists not extensive. You could simply take your tried and tested Guacamole recipe and add 5 tbsps of dried sea lettuce or dulse or even try the same with Mayonnaise. Come to think of it I have such a recipe in the Forager's Kitchen. My book is not academic but in neither book do the recipes require a science degree. A professor who is an accomplished cook, is a rarity but one who has the foresight to write for an international readership while keeping measurements accessible, must be nigh on unique.

I love Mouritsen's book. In this kitchen it certainly won't be collecting dust, metaphorical or otherwise, but it might get enhanced by splashes from slimy wet seaweed and other ingredients. It's on my list of "don't lend to anyone unless they are your best friend" editions.
I highly recommend that you buy this book.

Fabulous Seaweed Book

A fabulous book even if you already have a library of seaweed titles. We've been eating seaweeds from around the world for 30 years and using them for a compost additive in our garden. If you use mostly sea salt without Iodine added, you'll want to make sure seaweeds are in your diet. Dried seaweed rehydrates in a couple of minutes and is delicious with anything except desert. A Korean brand of dried wakame is especially nice in that it has the entire fronds without the stem.

Impressive

They say "when the student is ready, the teacher will come." Dr. Pezeshki's book of inspirational quotes and affirmations is perfect for those reaching out and searching to discover their true inner connection to self and Source. I love this book and will use it also as a quick reference guide when needed. It's an easy book to read, but feel it is more valuable when read deliberately, rather than quickly. In addition, I love the positiveness of the affirmations. This book would make an excellent gift for those in your life who are seeking or need guidance. I enjoy reading at least one affirmation before bedtime and one in the morning upon rising. It's such a tremendous way to end or start your day. This is truly a must have book. I hope to read many more books to come by Dr. Pezeshki.

Fantastic/amazing

I didn't know anything about Dr. Pezeshki until 2 weeks ago. One of my best friends told me about him and his amazing book "Live a Purposeful Life with Passion". When I started reading it I was in peace, I saw things differently, problems were easier, life was beautiful... and it still is. I wake up everyday happier and read one quote every morning and one at bedtime. It tells you what you need to know about life and how beautiful everything is around you. This is definitely a life changing book...

A rebellion is right around the corner. Can Lyra help her husband, or is he the one that shouldn't be trusted?

After getting an insight into this couple’s marriage, which joined two planets, in Taming His Queen, we are given more into the life of Lyra and Astor. This book goes into detail on how the two met, the arrangement of their marriage, and their married life. I do should make everything easy, right? Not with these two!
Throughout this read, there are ups and downs in the marriage of the two. These ups and downs aren’t necessarily their own doing, but of course outside forces that have a major impact on the union. A revolution is plotted against Astor’s planet and people, but will sweet Lyra be able to stop if from coming to fruition? Read this book to see all that Lyra went through, with lots of hot lovin’ showing how amazingly compatible the two truly are, and the Domestic Discipline that could eventually help Lyra let go all that is bad in her life if she only allows it. Great read! Can’t wait to read more from this author!

There's so much to love about Casey McKay's first sci-fi spanking romance

There's so much to love about Casey McKay's first sci-fi spanking romance. First of all, the arranged marriage to a strict (but loving) man from another planet where women are corrected with good old-fashioned physical discipline, is delicious! You get to watch the culture class of Lyra, an independent female from Earth, grapple with having a powerful, dominant husband who won't accept all her little rebellious without delivering a firm, bare-bottomed spanking.

The plot flies along, with intrigue from rebel warriors and a time machine that Lyra has been forbidden by her new husband to use. I loved Astor, her empathic husband, who is able to modulate her discipline perfectly because he can read her every mood. Oh, and he's a doctor, so there's a very hot punishment examination (and whipping) scene-- YUM!

Fun characters and lots of heat!

Casey gets you right into the action and keeps the pace fast in this enjoyable read! If you enjoy stories that include domestic discipline style spankings (not too severe) that often tie into sex between the hero and heroine, this is the perfect read! Casey has a fun, light-hearted writing style and includes humor and lively dialogue. I've never been especially into sci-fi romances, but Casey made me rethink the genre! I especially enjoy the mental/mind-reading connection between Lyra and Astor, and how they work through their misunderstanding and mistrust to achieve a deep, satisfying love.
